Gemma & Joel...a Tuscany inspired engagement shoot...

This has to be one of my favourite photo shoots so far! Working with the amazing Jade Alana is always such a treat and her photos are absolutely stunning! Gemma and Joel are such a beautiful couple and completely worked their gorgeousness despite the freezing conditions...it felt like -50 that day!! They live in Dubai so a little different to temperatures that they are used to! They are getting married this summer at Stancliffe Hall in Matlock so we used this as a backdrop for the shoot. Gemma & Joel both love travel and one of their favourite destinations is Tuscany, so I styled the shoot based on the amazing landscape, food and drink of the region! The courtyard area at Stancliffe Hall was the perfect location...

I raided my garden for trailing ivy and created a curtain of lace and ivy to frame the table settings...

Aren't they just stunning???!

Lots of lovely lavender, olive oil, miniature conifers, ciabatta, grapes and of course wine!!

Love this final shot...it perfectly captures their beautiful love!

Birthdays, Bowling and Burgers...

We've had a great weekend in our house...2 birthdays...Abi turned the big 13 and Ethan 7...so in honour of the occasion I thought I would make a fun, flower birthday cake complete with tulips for candles!

This was followed by a family game of ten pin...which, for the first time ever, I won!! I don't think my husband has got over it yet!

To top it all off we had big fat birthday burgers...

Happy Birthday Abi and Ethan...love you both so much!

Well this New Year is off to a very colourful start!! Here is a sneak peek of Rosie & Kevin's gorgeous wedding of pompoms and pin wheels...I think this is by far the most colourful wedding I've done so far but I had so much fun putting this together!! They included so many personal touches into their day which made it so memorable...I can't wait to see the amazing images captured by Bonbon Photography ...

Happy New Year to you all. I hope you've had a fantastic Christmas break and are ready for an amazing year ahead! Our house has been crazy...full of good food, good friends, family time and of course...nerf gun wars (my boys bought the girls guns for Christmas!) so it is all out war now!! So now the madness is over we are chilling before the kids go back to school and life returns to normality...when the decorations come down and the house feels so bare...I'm sure I'll find something to decorate though!! But before we leave Christmas behind I thought I'd share a few piccies of my Christmas table as promised...I finally decided to go with mercury glass ornaments, glittery beaded twigs and silvery foliage for a very wintery table! You'll have to excuse the bare plaster wall backdrop...my dining room is my next project!!

Christmas Inspiration #12...Roses are Red...

Only a few more days to go....hope you've got lots of lovely ideas for your home this year! In case you are still looking for more inspiration, I used some gorgeous red roses here to create a couple of different table settings using a mixture of containers that I have at home. Red roses look gorgeous with silver vases and goblets...

Green hypericum berries add a lovely natural touch for a Christmas table..

Why not use some ivy from the garden to dress your napkins and place cards..

For a really simple and effective Christmas table, why not collect some green bottles and containers for your roses...it doesn't need to cost a fortune!!

Use natural wood blocks to create your own place card holder...I just used some red wire, inserted it into the wood and curled it at the top to hold your card..

So I thought we could play a little Christmas game today! I came downstairs this morning to find that my son had provided some additional decorations on the Christmas tree...not decorations that I would normally use or class as Christmassy but funny nonetheless! My tree has turned into a war zone complete with my son's collection of toy soldiers...Toy Story..eat your heart out!! I must say that they are pretty well camouflaged, so your challenge today is to find them!! Your mission is a GO..GO..GO...

If I have counted right, you should have about 21!! Let me know how you get on...you may now stand down!!

Christmas Inspiration #11...Oranges & Cloves...

10 days to go...I get a countdown every morning from my kids, just in case I didn't know! We are in full swing of Christmas fairs, school plays, shopping, baking and all that lovely stuff!! I am trying to get my life a little more organised so I was impressed when I won a weekly planner at the school fair for a family of six...these things are never produced for a family of six!! Prizes are always for a family of four...holidays are always for a family of four...meal deals are always for a family of four...as you may be able to tell this is quite an irritation to me!!! Needless to say I am very happy with my new planner! The only thing I can't get organised right now is my Christmas table! I see all these lovely ideas and make lots of different things but now I can't decide what I like the most!! It's quite a dilemma! I'll let you know...

But in the meantime, here's another offering and it smells divine. Oranges and cloves arranged on different sized cakestands with a little bit of greenery make such a simple but effective decoration. Let me know what you think...you might want to use a skewer to make the cloves push in easier or risk a very sore thumb if you push them straight in like I did!!!

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!

As you can probably tell...Christmas is my absolute favourite time of year...I love cosy evenings, twinkle lights, loads of decorations, time with family and friends and the excuse to cook lots of lovely food...although I do wonder why we wait till December for all these things...I had a friend in Canada who left a tree up all year and redecorated it for each holiday!! You could have a Valentines tree...an Easter tree...yeah, maybe not!! A little extreme but fun all the same! So I've finally managed to put all my decorations up...just the outside lights to go now!! I'll have to persuade my lovely hubby to help me with that one! I thought I'd show you some piccie's in case you need to get inspired to put up your decorations...although I'm sure you're far more organised than me and have been ready for weeks!! We have 2 trees this year...red and gold in the family room (to go with the newly painted red wall!!) and plum and glass in the living room!

How about putting some twinkle lights on a mirror? I added a cute little mitten and boot garland to finish it off...

Windowsills look great with a decorated garland...

My daughter made some gorgeous little red & white pom poms, so we added some polka dot baubles and stacked them in a cakestand!

I love decorating archways...for this one I made some fabric hearts in red and white fabrics...

Don't forget the bannisters!!

You'll find these little guys everywhere in our house...the kids love them...although the dog's not too sure! He walks past acting like they're not freaking him out and gives them an occasional sniff!

Vintage glass cake stands look great with baubles or beaded fruits like these...

Garlands, garlands everywhere!! I just can't resist!

My husband has been telling me for years that I have too many Christmas decorations and I think that this year I have to agree...I had about 4 boxes left over!! I'll have to start hiring out! I love collecting ornaments and these plum coloured fruits and glass ones have to be my favourites!

I know...more garlands...but I love them on antique furniture...don't stop me now!! Glass and mercury glass candlesticks are perfect too!

Simple greenery and a few flowers over the fireplace to finish it all off...perfect!

Christmas Inspiration #10... Garden Berries...

Apologies for my lack of blogging over the last few days...I feel like I've been catching up with my life!! I have finally decorated my home for Christmas so I'll give you a little sneak peek later tonight. Life is hectic at the moment...school Christmas plays, Christmas fairs, one daughter doing mock G.C.S.E's and a Christmas wedding this weekend! It will be nice to sit back next week and enjoy some family time with a few pyjama days...Christmas movies...and lots of lovely food! How are your preparations going?

Well here's a simple table decoration for you to have a go at...have a rummage around your cupboards and find a few nice jugs and milk jugs...all different sizes, and fill with some lovely holly and berried ivy from your garden and a few red roses...anything that looks remotely Christmassy really!!

Christmas Inspiration #9...Glitter & Snow...

Today was a good day...a sleep in this morning (my lovely husband took the kids to school)...aromatherapy massage (amazing!)...a lovely meeting tonight with a bride to discuss her Indian/English wedding with a gold, turquoise and jade colour scheme (gorgeous!)...and now I'm sitting by my tree feeling very chilled and inspired!

So here is another Christmas offering...I love gypsophilia and think it looks so beautiful and delicate in wintery arrangements. This gyp has been dyed white and glittered so it shimmers like soft, powdery snow! It's perfect with silver and mercury glass containers and would look amazing with lots of candles and crystal candlesticks!

Christmas Inspiration #8...Cranberries & Candles

So I'm back...with a clean house...a decorated tree (another one to do tomorrow...okay maybe 2!)...and I even managed a roast dinner in there too!! I feel complete! I'm so looking forward to tomorrow as a very good friend has treated me to a full body aromatherapy massage...never had one before but it sounds relaxing which is definitely good at this time of year! I'll let you know how it goes!

So here we go with another simple Christmas idea for you to try at home. I love cranberries, cinnamon sticks, oranges and cones at Christmas and they make a lovely natural arrangement! Floating candles are perfect with the cranberries and a simple wreath of noble fir. It smells absolutely gorgeous and looks great when the candles are lit!

Christmas Inspiration #7...Fruits & Flowers

Well first let me apologise for my absence over the last couple of days...I knew it would be impressive if I actually managed to blog a Christmas idea every day!! I have been racing around decorating a party on Saturday, a wedding yesterday and a gorgeous engagement photo shoot today at Stancliffe Hall. Keep checking back for photos as I guarantee they will be amazing as they were taken by my fabulous friend Jade Alana! It was a Tuscany inspired shoot (yes I know it's the middle of winter...and there is snow on the hills up in Matlock...and the couple nearly froze to death)...but I promise you'll feel a touch of the Italian sun when you see it! But I'm back now with another Christmas offering...this time, fruits and flowers in modern cube vases. I used white avalanche roses in 2 cubes and some plum and pink tone glittered and glass fruit decorations in 2 cubes but you could use any colour combination that you like (within reason!!) Let me know what you think!

Hopefully I'll manage to blog a little more inspiration tomorrow in between cleaning my very neglected house and decorating it for Christmas!! See you then!x

Christmas Inspiration #6...Winter Woodland

I absolutely love these miniature Christmas trees and conifers which look great in these vintage cream urns! Add a little sparkle with some mercury glass baubles, glittered walnuts and cones for a simple winter woodland on your holiday table!

I hope you're enjoying your Christmas preparations...my kids are all excited about putting our tree up tomorrow...in honour of the occasion I have painted a wall in my living room a beautiful Christmas red today!!! Christmas Inspiration #5...Hot pink & lime

So, if you're not one for traditional Christmas colours, why not try some hot pink and lime and try something a little bit different. Here I wrapped candles inside vases with bright, co-ordinating ribbon...added a little fake snow and baubles and a few nicely wrapped boxes for a little winter wonderland on your table!

So get creative with your wrapping, sprinkle some snow and then sit back with a nice hot chocolate and share your suggestions on wrapping up your Christmas presents this year!!

Christmas Inspiration #3...Cosy Winter Vases!

I love this idea of creating cosy knitted sleeves on vases for a really wintery feel for your table! I scoured clothing stores for cable knit leg warmers, complete with pompoms, and socks to create these beige and soft pink vases! Another option, for those of you who enjoy a little rummage, would be to hunt through some charity stores for some cable knit jumpers and make good use of the sleeves!! I added some cream roses but you could have any colour combination you like!

Christmas inspiration #2..roses & cakestands!

I love red roses at Christmas and together with simple greenery from your garden you can create this easy centrepiece. If you prefer you could use white or even soft pink roses which would look equally beautiful. I used 2 vintage glass cakestands and a footed glass bowl to create the stand and then added small favour boxes and roses and foliage in small glass votive holders on the tiers. Hope you like!

I can't believe it's almost December...I hope you're getting excited and not too stressed with the shopping!! Look out for another idea tomorrow!

Christmas inspiration #1...Tulip Surprise!

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of decorating the Shine Christmas Market in Derby and had to create 18 'simple to do' Christmas table decorations to inspire visitors for their own Christmas table at home. So I thought over the next few weeks I would offer you an idea each day to inspire you too!

So here is number 1 which I thought I would call 'Tulip Surprise'! I wrapped a few boxes in a nice gold paper and stacked them, joining them with pretty ribbon. I then cut some slits in the top of the boxes and placed small vases in the top. Around this I placed some gold angel hair, tissue paper and raffia and then added some gorgeous soft pink tulips and there you go...a floral gift for your centrepiece! It looks gorgeous with mercury glass tealight holders or a nice hurricane lamp and some faux soft pink glittery berries add a nice finishing touch! See what you think...

Emily & Darren...

It was such a pleasure to be part of Emily & Darren's wedding a couple of weeks ago. It was a wedding full of personal details, quirky vintage finds and gorgeous vintage tone florals that definitely reflected their unique style! They married in their local parish church in Quorn village and followed with an amazing reception at The Carriage Hall, in Plumtree, Nottingham. I can't wait to see their official photographs but couldn't resist showing you some of the details!
For their ceremony I created a feature arrangement using a gorgeous vintage wooden box provided by Emily, and filled it with these lovely autumnal hydrangeas and vintage tone roses and personalised it with their initials...such a lovely idea!

I am totally in love with these colours! At the Carriage Hall I created table centres using lovely cream candelabras and floral wreaths and also a collection of vintage cream urns for the mezzanine tables.

The Carriage Hall is such a beautiful and versatile wedding venue and I loved the opportunity to create this stunning ceiling of twinkle lights and paper lanterns in the mezzanine area.

The reception was filled with lots of lovely details including a natural twig wishing tree, sweetie table and cupcakes served on vintage glass cake stands...

On the bar, I filled a vintage champagne bucket with more gorgeous flowers...

So I hope you've enjoyed this little sneak into what I get up to on a weekend...I thoroughly enjoyed this wedding and getting to know an amazing couple and I wish them all the best for their future together!!

Wedding Event with a Difference!

I had a great time a few weeks ago exhibiting at the Save the Date Wedding Event with a Difference. So many lovely brides, amazing exhibitors and tons of gorgeous ideas and products to look at! So here's a few images of my stand...

I love these stripey paper straws at the moment and used them to display my business cards...but in the same way they would be perfect for displaying seating cards for your wedding guests!

My fabulous friend and photographer Jade Alana was on the stand next to me so we put together these lovely luggage tags full of tips for the bride and groom and displayed them in an old trunk. This idea would also be perfect for an alternative table plan!

So now I'm looking forward to exhibiting this weekend at the Vintage Chic Wedding Fair at Stancliffe Hall. I'd love to see you there!

Pumpkins!

Had a great half term with the kids and ended it with a relaxing sunday afternoon curled up on the sofa's eating homemade apple crumble with cream and watching Disney's 'Robin Hood' which is absolutely classic! This inspired us for our pumpkin carving last night...so here we have Prince John and Hiss which now looks great in our front window!

I've spent the last few weeks dreaming up new ideas and working into the small hours of the morning creating lots of lovely bits and pieces ready for exhibiting this sunday at Save the Date Magazine's Wedding Event with a Difference! I'm now trying to avoid looking at my ironing pile which I think is taller than some of my children! I have designed a brand new stand with lots of things to look at and goodies to give away so come along and say hi and enjoy this brilliant event!

Next month I am really excited to be exhibiting at Vintage Chic Wedding Fair, which is being held at Stancliffe Hall in Matlock. This is a stunning venue, so come along and have a look around and meet some amazing suppliers!

Matt & Sarah...an Engagement Shoot

I had such a lovely time last week styling this gorgeous engagement shoot for Matt & Sarah, who have to be one of the most relaxed, fun and thoughtful couples I have ever met. I am so looking forward to styling their wedding in April! We spent the evening in the grounds of a lovely hotel in Cromford and also at a gorgeous bookshop for the rest of the shoot. We were joined by the lovely Rachael Connerton and her equally lovely husband Ian who captured some amazing images that you will be able to see in a few weeks! But I couldn't resist giving you a little sneak peek from my camera of some of the details in the meantime! Matt & Sarah love all things vintage, travel, books and music...the perfect clients!! I set up a cute little lace tent and added lots of vintage details and gorgeous pink and peach florals for a perfect summer evening.

John & Emily...polka dots and teepee's!

I had a lovely time at the beginning of the summer styling this engagement shoot for John and Emily...such a cute couple! I created a setting to reflect their upcoming wedding style...lovely pinks and mauves, polka dots, mason jars, country style flowers...and of course a polka dot teepee!! I couldn't resist! Andy & Lucinda...a wedding full of memories..

It was lovely to take a trip down somebody else's 'memory lane' at this weekends wedding! Andy & Lucinda married at Norbury Church in Derbyshire and followed with a reception at Smallwood Manor, Lucinda's childhood prep school. It was lovely to hear guests stories of days spent at the school and watch them find their names on the plaques on the walls! It was such a personal day for everybody and a privilege to be part of.

My lovely daughter Meganne came along to assist me and took all these photos. I think she did a great job!

Andy & Lucinda chose a very rustic, vintage style for their day whilst still making the most of the school surroundings and theme...beautiful solid wood dining tables and benches, blackboard table names of classes, lots of natural moss and candles, herb favours for guests and centrepieces of mason jars filled with vintage tone roses, astilbe and herbs. I made gorgeous linen table runners which added a lovely natural base for their table design.

I decorated the cake in the same rustic vintage style...

Guests could leave messages for the bride and groom using this amazing vintage typewriter!

I handmade this personalized wedding sign for Andy & Lucinda and it turned out great! I make these to order so if you are interested in having one for your special day just give me a call!

Hannah & Ali

Hannah & Ali have got to be one of the most gorgeous couples I've had the privilege of working with...so much fun to be around and full of so many creative ideas for their wedding! It is always such a pleasure to have the chance to help create so many details that truly reflect the personality of a couple. The gorgeous photos are provided by Jade Alana Photography ...always amazing!! Hannah looked absolutely stunning in a Kula Tsurdiu dress...

Hannah chose a beautiful, summery yellow, green and white colour palette and we created a lovely garden style ceremony and reception complete with bunting, hanging lanterns, whirly windmills and pots of daisies!! Hannah wanted a really natural looking bouquet so I used lots of lovely daisies, alchemilla mollis, chrysanths, sweet peas, gypsophilia and craspedia tied with vintage style cream lace.

I made a matching buttonhole for Ali using fun 'billy balls'...

Hannah chose simple bouquets of gypsophilia, handtied with yellow gingham ribbon for her bridesmaids who looked absolutely stunning!

Hannah and her dad arrived at the wedding in the coolest wedding car I've ever seen...and perfectly colour co-ordinated!!

The ceremony was so lovely and welcoming...I used rustic crates and painted flower pots at the start of the aisle and lined the aisle with shepherds crooks and bunting made by Hannah's mum & friends!

Hannah asked me to create a canopy for the wedding ceremony which was so much fun to make! I decided to use a mixture of gingham, lace and organza ribbon to reflect the style of the other wedding details and

trim with bunting...my lovely husband climbed some very high ladders for me to hang it as I'm definitely not one for heights!! It was so worth it...it looked like it was suspended in mid air and was such an amazing feature!

Hannah and her mum spent months collecting bottles, jars and quirky containers for the reception which looked amazing filled with flowers!

Even Ali got involved, creating all the table number stands from lego!

Hannah made a gorgeous table plan using a vintage stepladder...

It was such a perfect day for a perfect couple...thanks Hannah & Ali for letting me share in all its loveliness!

Birthday BBQ...

So we had a birthday in our family on thursday...our gorgeous Meganne turned 15...

Her one request was that we have a bbq on the beach for her birthday...unfortunately, gail force winds and rain meant that we wimped out and had to do it last night instead!! It was definitely worth the wait...in true British style we huddled behind windbreakers...shivering after an hour of bodyboarding...and cranked up the barbeques!

One bbq collapsed as soon as it was set up...epic fail...but Jon managed to redeem it with his Jonny Rambo skills...burning himself in the process!! By the time it was all cooked we had purple lips and had lost all feeling in our outer extremeties but we kept calm and carried on...giving the kids the line 'it's a memory maker'!!!

So here's my boys...even the dog who managed to get himself a burger!

We had a great time...and to top it off we had the most amazing sunset...followed by a couple hours of thawing out with a cup of tea!

An outdoor vintage office...

I had such a lovely evening a few weeks ago with the always amazing photographer Jade Alana, styling this gorgeous little shoot for Carmen Weddings. Carmen Yuen-Stevenson offers a boutique wedding planning service for brides throughout the UK. Having recently created a brand new website...which is beautiful...Carmen wanted me to create an outdoor, vintage style office to reflect her style and services for the new site. I think Jade's images are incredible and captured everything I envisioned for the shoot...Carmen looks stunning and I wish her all the best in her business. So here are some of my favourite images...isn't this sign amazing??...custom made by Cherry Pie Lane...

I put together some old furniture that I have to create the office including some vintage drawers that I was recently given, which were perfect for this shoot!

I adore this soft bouquet of pale pink astilbe...

My dream office would look like this...an organised chaos of lovely bits and bobs tumbling out of drawers...and a field for inspiration!!

Carmen also asked me to create a little wedding table to compliment the pink and brown theme of her new website...so here's what I came up with...

I used a gorgeous mixture of pale pink roses, astilbe, dahlias and orchids with rich cotinus foliage in vintage cream containers...

I also created a cute little fence around the table of vintage style bunting that I made for a recent wedding...

Jade discovered these amazing blue doors which were a perfect backdrop for these final images...

I created a small, lace swagged swing and love bunting hanging in low branches by a river. I love the low sun coming through the trees...a perfectly romantic little spot!!

The rich colours of the florals were gorgeous with the fruit and wine picnic...

Buttonhole Inspiration

Saturdays wedding was absolutely gorgeous...a green, yellow & white colour palette using lots of wild looking garden flowers! Daisies, alchemilla mollis, astilbe, sweet peas, aster and tanacetum...and my favourite...craspedia, or 'billy buttons'!!
So here are the buttonholes I made for the grooms party...

They all look so 'cheery' (if that's even a word...I tend to make these things up!) and fresh. So I felt inspired yesterday to create some more!! This time I added some linen, gingham and floral fabric leaves and detailed with ribbons and twine.

I love the simplicity of gypsophilia tied with yellow gingham ribbon...

A fresh sprig of rosemary adds such a lovely subtle whiff (smell just didn't sound right!!)

I absolutely love these billy buttons at the moment! So much fun...

I love the natural, more informal style of these buttonholes...they scream backyard country wedding!

David & Lee...a country vintage style wedding

David & Lee got married at St Giles Church in West Bridgford followed by a reception at Grange Hall in Radcliffe on Trent. Their wedding was such fun to be part of because it was filled with so many personal details that made every guest feel so welcome and part of their celebration. They had thought of everything...a vintage bus to transport guests between venues...an ice cream cart and Pimms reception on arrival at the hall...a childrens play area in the reception hall for the younger guests...home made jam favours and much more!
It was great to have the chance to design and create details to compliment their style...a lovely, relaxed, country vintage feel...so out came my sewing machine and plenty of fabric and here are the results!
First on my list was 180 metres of bunting...the longest 180 metres of my life!! But it was definitely worth it!

I swagged the bunting from central poles in the room to the edges creating a ceiling canopy over the tables. I also created a 'fence' of bunting using shepherds crooks in large pots in co-ordinating colours to give a real garden feel to the room...

I created a table plan using a shabby chic cream frame, vintage style floral fabric and hand written luggage tags...

I dressed the tables with lace cloths, handmade fabric place cards and various vintage style containers filled with roses, peonies, soft pink astilbe, ammi and lisianthus.

The gorgeous crockery and glassware was provided by The Fiona Herbert Catering Company who also provided a high tea for guests which was absolutely amazing!

David & Lee chose these gorgeous vintage railway postcards for their table numbers which looked great in these shabby chic stands!

The home made jam favours were adorable...

They had the cutest wedding cake that I topped with a cluster of peonies

Sweets...yum...

Lovely big tubs of hydrangeas, roses, ammi and peonies...

Entertainment during high tea was provided by the incredible voice of Simon Partridge, vintage vocalist singing songs of the 1920's, 30's and 40's.

All in all, a fantastic day...congratulations David & Lee!! Hopefully I'll be able to show you some official photos soon of the bride & groom so come back soon for a peek!

Surprises...

Anyone who knows me will know that I don't normally like surprises...I like to know what's going on...I like my lists...my well laid plans...ok, I know I'm a control freak!! But I do like little surprises...like this little note I found on my camera the other day...my camera that nobody else is supposed to use (I know...control!)

I'll make allowances for my hubby though...surprises are good every now and then so I should just get used to it!

So, I'm failing miserably at blogging regularly! In the middle of crazy busy wedding season...late nights, early mornings and the start of many of the florists equivalent to the 'naked dream'!! I really wanted to create a scene that reflected John & Leckie's style...something country, vintage, quirky...something unique...so I put together this little scene using a gorgeous vintage throw as a backdrop with vintage bottles and mason jars. I used lovely English country garden flowers...peonies, delphiniums and astilbe which made such a beautiful bouquet tied with lace and finished with a handmade tag.

Love this final shot of the little row boat...so dreamy sunday afternoon!!

I can't wait to see Jade's photos of their wedding day...I'm sure they will be amazing!

As promised here is a little sneak peek of Jon & Leckie's Engagement shoot from the weekend! Jade and I had a lot of fun putting this together at Jon's beautiful family home...with horses, a gorgeous little rowing boat on their pond and meadows of long grass, daisies and buttercups! Despite the gale force winds on Saturday and threatening black skies, the rain held off long enough for us to get some great shots. So look out for some more amazing photos from Jade over the next week!

We met Leckie and her brother Jack at a recent wedding fayre. They have launched a new wedding stationary design company based in the Midlands called Pocket Typewriter. It is absolutely amazing so I definitely recommend you take a look!!

Had a great time last night styling an engagement photo shoot with my good friend Jade...look out for a sneak peek very soon!! Now I have to admit that I have never been a fan of the colour coral but I have definitely been converted! I am absolutely in love with these 'coral charm' paeonies that I used for our shoot...beautiful, huge blooms that scream English country garden! Delicate pale pink astilbe compliments the blush tones so nicely...love it!

Playtime...

I have been like a little kid at Christmas this week...I have finally managed to get a decent camera to blog with so it has been playtime in my house! I wake up with it...go to bed with it...hold it for no apparent reason...just need to learn how to use it now!! I feel like I did when I was about 8 years old and always wanted to wear my new shoes to bed! Bailey (my retriever!) is sick of modelling for me now, so I've moved on to some flowers I had at home this week! Please forgive my poor photography skills...but hopefully you can join me on my journey as I attempt to dazzle you with amazing pictures!! My lovely Jade is going to be sick of me hassling her for wise tips so I think I will stick to letting her do the dazzling for the time being!!

breathe in..breathe out..

Do you ever wake up bursting with creative inspiration...desperate to make something...sometimes something just a little bit different...unable to breathe until you get it out of your system?? Sadly I do...much to my husbands annoyance...but once I have I can breathe again and I am much easier to live with!! So my lovely friend Jade and I have decided to get together and share our creative ideas and bring you, (hopefully !!), a weekly blog of mini style sessions to inspire you. Forgive us if we fall behind but we will try our best!

So here is our first offering...a vintage style balsa flower bouquet and buttonhole, beautifully photographed by Jade. I put together the bouquet using these gorgeous balsa wood flowers and vintage style lace flowers finished with the cutest buttons. I finished it with a cuff of mink coloured feathers and dusky pink lace handle.

This could be such a lovely alternative to a traditional bouquet along with this balsa flower buttonhole. I decided to mix it with natural, miniature cones and a more masculine deep brown ribbon!

Finally, a milk glass vase of 'Curly Sue' tulips!

So here's a few photos from a small wedding I did recently! Patricia & Chris were married at The Roman Baths in Bath on 26th March. They had a gorgeous day with close family and friends at a truly classical venue! Photos are by the lovely Emma White

Patricia chose lovely vibrant shades of orange for her flowers which I mixed with softer cream roses, hypericum berries and moss green foliage. I used gorgeous stone bowls for the reception table centrepieces to compliment the surroundings of the Roman Baths.

I put together a collection of vintage bottles to be used by guests to place their special wishes to the Bride and Groom and tags marking the day were tied with a simple moss green ribbon.

Congratulations Chris and Patricia...you make a beautiful couple!

As promised here are some gorgeous, dreamy photos of bouquets and arrangements I made for the Stancliffe Hall wedding open day by the always amazing Jade of Jade Alana Photography. If you're still looking for a photographer for your wedding, I can't recommend Jade enough...she always inspires and amazes me!! Thanks to Emma, her second shooter, for modelling for us...I draw the line at doing that!!

Here I paired huge fluffy white hydrangea heads with white cherry blossom from my garden in a white urn vase...I was very disappointed when I got home as my husband immediately removed the cherry blossom and threw it out complaining about hayfever!! Whatever happened to taking one for the team!! Oh well, it looks pretty in the photos!

I used simple jam jars to display peach roses and pink ranunculus for a country garden style feel...makes me want to make home-made lemonade and bunting!!

Soft pink roses with a brown satin handle and cameo style brooch...love these photos so much...

I love the mix of rich colours in this bouquet...deep burgundy and deep pink roses, pale pink spray roses and purple callas finished with a deep pink satin handle and diamantes.

Stancliffe Hall Wedding Open Day

So here's a few photo's of my stand and table at Saturdays exclusive wedding open day. I decided to use my new display boards that I've been working on all week...more on that to follow!!

I decorated my table with 3 very different table setting styles as you can see. I love the rich colours of this first display...beautiful red and deep pink roses accentuated with pale pink spray roses and purple callas. I wrapped the containers in a gorgeous gold dupion silk to add that touch of glamour!

I then chose a soft, pretty vintage style packed with a gorgeous mix of roses and bouvardia, vintage bird style placecards, vintage glass napkin rings and fabric rose topped favour boxes.

Finally, a fresh green and white display of hydrangeas, viburnum and ammi in a beautiful stone pot finished with fresh succulent table number holder, place card and favour box!

Spring

I love Spring...blossom...open windows...washing on the line and beautiful spring flowers everywhere. My kids have been out on the trampoline everyday and I have even been tempted to curl up in a nice quilt in the evenings and sit out on the deck with a nice cup of tea...only the British would do that!! We have even had our first barbecue of the year and we mean to carry on!!! So here's a few photos from my morning walk with Bailey...

Yesterday, I made some spring table arrangements for an 80th birthday party at The Carriage Hall in Plumtree....spring flowers are so colourful and they smell divine!! I used simple pastel coloured enamel containers and let the flowers do the rest!!

Enjoy getting outside this week and doing the things that remind you of how beautiful our world is!! xx

Carriage Hall Wedding Fayre

I had a great time last weekend at The Carriage Hall Wedding Fayre meeting lots of lovely brides who always inspire me with their dream wedding ideas! I dressed a table with 4 very different place settings to hopefully inspire more ideas!!

A summer garden wedding with lots of personal touches inspired this blue and yellow theme using jam jars to hold bunches of freshly picked flowers...lemon place cards...pin wheel napkins...and favours of lovely home made jam!

For a bright funky wedding with a bit of a twist I added sliced limes to this arrangement of hot pink and lime flowers. How about a quirky apple place card and a lovely fabric heart favour for your guests?

A more traditional, classic arrangement of white roses and stocks, vintage style favours, pearl and diamanté napkin rings and vintage frame place cards!

For a soft, romantic look I used pale pink hydrangeas in white glass cubes with a co-ordinating place card and favour box and finished with a floral chair back arrangement...

Another chair back arrangement in a fresh, country garden style..

Finally a hand tied bouquet using classic white flowers and foliage with some diamanté detail...

I think my dog is talking to me!

Every morning I come home from dropping my kids off at school and he's always waiting...ready...knowing this is his turn now to go out!! But in case I didn't realise this he has recently taken to having my things ready so we can go straight out the door! Over the last few weeks, Bailey has decided that once I've left the house he is going to find my gloves in the basket on the stairs and take them to his bed, hold them in his paws and wait...so this is how I find him...

So over the past few days I have decided to test his commitment to communicate and have hidden my gloves under piles of scarves and gloves...but no...he still finds them and waits! He has made his point! So it is off to the car...how can I refuse him??!!

Whether he loves me or the walk more I have yet to find out!!! Have a great day!

I love Sundays! Family time, mad walks through the woods, family dinner and some comfort pudding like tonights choice...Bread and Butter pudding...does it get any better than that?! So today the sun was shining and we headed out with the dog for a very wet adventure as you can see for yourself!

Jon decided to teach Ethan how to make fire in the woods...it took a while....but wait...wait...

FIRE!!! Ethan was very pleased with himself!

Josh then decided to go into full survival mode and took to the trees as a commando with his branch gun!

Still with his gun!!

And just to make sure they were properly wet, they decided to go through a culvert at the stream...fun times!!

Winter blues...

In January I was asked to style a 'winter wedding' photo shoot at the Carriage Hall in Plumtree, to be used for their new wedding brochure. It was another chance to work alongside my amazing friend and photographer Jade Alana so I knew the results would be amazing!! The Carriage Hall was once the old Plumtree station goods shed, but has been converted into a stunning venue for weddings and special events. If you haven't been there it's definitely worth a visit!

I decided to use soft duck egg blues, ivory lace, silver and mercury glass against the beautiful brick interior of the venue. I put up the Christmas tree (again!) and decorated with glittery white poinsettias, mercury glass baubles and handmade fabric hearts that I spent the week stitching together!!

I even roped my husband in to make me a wedding sign to compliment the tree!! Secretly I know he loves doing these things despite the frowns and general sighs of "what on earth are you making now??"
I made little place cards of duck egg blue dupion silk overlaid with glittery white cotton lace with a matching wrap around the napkin and duck egg blue tablecloths with lace panel overlays.

I borrowed these beautiful silver beaded tealight shades from my mother in law whose house is an Aladdin's cave of goodies!!

Beautiful white roses, lisianthus, freesias, ranunculus and gypsophilia along with silvery blue eucalyptus were arranged in a variety of silver goblets, cake stands and mercury glass vases giving a really fresh vintage feel to the shoot.

I created a wintry alter table using a console covered in the same overlays and used a lovely big silver mirror to reflect the light and soft glow of twinkle lights and silver candlesticks...

I also finished each chair with a handmade fabric heart hung with lace and a vintage hat pin as a gift for each guest

Shine Christmas Market

I had a great time decorating the annual Shine Christmas market at the Riverside Centre in Derby a couple months ago. We had 18 different Christmas Table centrepieces that hopefully gave everyone a few ideas for their Christmas table!

Lots of money was raised for 2 local women's charities so thanks to everyone who came along and supported this brilliant event!

Stancliffe Hall Christmas Ball

I was so pleased to be asked to take part in decorating this event in November. Stancliffe Hall, in Matlock, Derbyshire, is an unbelievably beautiful wedding venue that has been completely refurbished to the highest standard and will be available for weddings this year.

It turned out to be quite a challenging task for me due to the sub zero temperatures and snowfall in November as my area to decorate was outside the front entrance!! After 4 hours out there it took me an hour in a nice, hot bath to thaw out!! I love my job but that tested my commitment! I'm glad to say that I survived and was really pleased with the result. Catching up...

So I know I have been very slack recently with my blogging but I intend to make amends and catch up on a few events I have been part of over the winter. My daughter has actually put me to shame by setting herself a New Year challenge to blog every day for the next year and so far she has stuck with it. Check it out at twocolouredeyes.blogspot.com Forgive me if I fail but the thought was there! The truth is I am not best friends with my computer...my children regularly mock me for my poor computer skills and the fact that I would rather write out my blog on paper first before committing it to this screen!! I am old school, I know!! To be honest I would be more at home typing away on my old typewriter that my grandmother gave me! Interestingly, my clients now want to hire that same typewriter for their 'vintage' weddings which really says it all. What can I say, I am vintage through and through!

Save the Date...

Last Sunday, I had a great time exhibiting at the Save the Date Magazine "Wedding Event with a Difference" which was held at the Roundhouse in Derby. The girls at the magazine did an amazing job organizing this event which offered live music, catwalk fashion show, blokes corner (complete with a stags head, table football, bar and even an old fashioned shave!!), and much, much more! I met some fantastic suppliers and felt very inspired in their company! So here's a few piccie's of my stand...

Mum, Grandma, Great Grandma...

My grandma passed away this week at the amazing age of 102. She was a mum to 7, grandma to 17 and great grandma to 21! She has travelled the world, raised an amazing family and always given tirelessly of herself to bless others. I have always admired her strength, determination, generosity, faith and unswerving commitment to her family. She was loved by so many people and had an impact on many, many lives. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Now she is at peace... laughing with the angels...never tiring...always smiling...

Love you Nan, you will always be in my heart xx

So Christmas is over and already we have 2 birthdays in our house!! Expensive time of year!! So here is my late baby Abi who turned 12 a few days ago...

Happy Birthday Abi!!

And then, at the other extreme, here is our super early baby Ethan, who was born at 26 weeks weighing 2lbs 8oz! He was so small you could hold him in the palm of your hand!

All the doctors said he wouldn't survive when I was pregnant but here is the proof that miracles do happen...he turned 6 today and is loving his new Star Wars bike and Yoda helmet...

Happy Birthday to our little miracle man!!

Christmas has arrived...

Christmas has arrived in our house!! Two trees are up, garlands and twinkle lights are everywhere, the gingerbread candle is burning and the garden has already been covered with snow, with more to come!! What more could I ask for?? I was starting to worry that I wouldn't want to see my decorations again, having used them for a number of shoots recently...but no...still as fun as always!

I had a really nice time with my son Joshua last week...we had an hour alone, he got in touch with his feminine side and helped me decorate our tree with the plum and glass decorations. Now, you have to understand that this is normally sacred ground...done alone at midnight, with a nice glass of wine when the kids are asleep! So I feel I must congratulate myself for letting go of being a Christmas control freak...temporarily mind you!! I think he did a pretty good job!

Everybody helped decorate the big tree in the family room...red and gold this year and all the decorations the kids have made over the years. I love the traditions and sense of family that Christmas brings...these are the special times that we share with our families...sometimes I get a bit too busy at this time of year and lose sight of the simple things...it's good to just stop and enjoy being together!

When you think they are asleep...

We finally thought we had cracked it last night...Ethan, our youngest, went to bed quietly...by himself..which, if you know him, is a feat in itself!!! Later, on checking him, we found him lacking in clothes because he had spent a considerable amount of time dressing his teddy in his pyjamas!! He had managed to put everything on the right way, which is quite impressive considering it was pretty dark!! Well at least he was quiet about it!!

Thought I would leave you with a few photos from my walk this morning with Bailey...it was cold, frosty, extremely misty but completely beautiful!

Sweets & Sours...

So I thought I better start to introduce you to my world...the things I like, the things I don't like so much and everything in between!!

I love my husband soooo much...he has always been my best friend, my inspiration, my sounding board, my kick up the backside when I need it, my soul mate...
I love our 4 beautiful children...my little miracles, who are not so little any more? They constantly amaze me...
I love walking my dog Bailey every morning...time to breathe and reassess the world!
I love Christmas which for me sadly starts in October, when I sneak on the Christmas music when no-one is around, light a spiced apple and cinnamon candle, gather my ingredients for my Christmas pudding and chutneys and get to work! You might even see a few twinkle lights appear just to get everyone in the mood! Yes, my family thinks I'm mad but secretly I think they enjoy it...everyone wants to stir the Christmas pudding and taste the first batch of chutney with a cracker and a chunk of cheese!
I love a rip-roaring open fire on a cold, miserable, rainy day
I love the smell of a bonfire...and lighting the fire pit in the garden to toast marshmallows with the kids!
I love snow and the muffled silence outside after a fresh downfall
I love my range cooker and spending hours trying new recipes
I love food...savoury is definitely better than sweet...although a bowlful of jalebi's and gulab jamans is hard to beat!
I especially love...marmite on hot, buttered toast, normally late at night with a glass of full fat milk (diets don't stand a chance in our house!)...indian food, especially my Grandma's meat masala curry...leftover chapati's toasted with marmalade on for breakfast or a coffee with a masala meat sandwich with my dad on a saturday morning!!!
I love flowers, especially roses, peonies and hydrangeas
I don't have a favourite colour...there are too many good colours out there...it depends what mood I'm in!
I love patchwork quilts, hot water bottles, candles, polka dots, old books and all things vintage
I love to sew and have an insane amount of fabric waiting to be put to good use!
I love evening walks in December when everyone has their lights on and I get to check out their Christmas trees! I know...if I were a Mr Man I would be Mr Nosy!
I love watching a good movie with a bag of Dorito's, a tub of houmous and a glass of wine!
I love lists...did you notice?!!!

Tinsel...don't ever ask me to decorate with it!!!
Rice cookers and all other useless kitchen appliances...make it yourself! :-)
Rain...have you ever noticed that, without fail, it suddenly gets heavier at 3.30pm when you have to stand in the playground waiting for your kids to come out?? Teachers must look out and chuckle as they keep them in an extra few minutes!! I know I would...did I just say that?!
Bad hair days and not knowing what to wear
My husband Jon, falling asleep on the sofa...if you're tired, go to bed...don't mess up my sofa!!
Shoes left anywhere except the shoe cupboard...and with 4 children this does become an issue...today I found 9 pairs scattered around my living room!
Being cold...how on earth I survived living in Canada I don't know!!
Feeling disorganised!

I would love to live by the sea one day...preferably near my sister in California!
I'd love to see my kids succeed in everything they dream of
I'd love to meet my dream client who says "Go wild, go crazy, money is not an issue!!"
I'd love to climb Mount Kilimanjaro

I have had so many lovely comments from all of you out there about my website and all the beautiful images but I would like to 'Pay it Forward' and say a huge thank you to Jade Alana Photography! Jade has managed to perfectly capture my designs through her lens and has become an amazing friend in the process. I have so enjoyed working on Style Sessions and weddings with Jade and love her personal approach to each and every client. She has an incredible gift for capturing the moments the rest of us might miss and drawing out real emotion and atmosphere in her shots.

It is so great finding someone who is so passionate about what they do and shares the same style and vision as I do! Along with my family, Jade has kept pushing me to believe in myself and what I do and for that I am forever grateful. Our family has grown richer for knowing her and her beautiful family!

Birthday Boy!

So...we had a birthday in our house this week. The big Josh Bosh turned 9 yesterday and is just as gorgeous as ever! Check him out in his new flat cap...too cool for words! His super trendy Uncle Eric bought one in the summer so he just had to have one on his birthday list!

I wanted to take the opportunity to introduce you to Eric Michael...

....not only am I privileged to have him as a brother-in-law...not only is he the moodiest, most natural male model I have had the pleasure of working with ( check him out in my Field of Dreams gallery!)...but he's also the most amazing web designer responsible for creating my site. I think he's done an incredible job and has captured the essence of who I am and what I believe in his design.

He has listened to endless hours of my ramblings about my likes and dislikes...he was even crazy enough to provide me with a pile of Californian wedding magazines on his last visit, which fuelled even more hours of ooohs and aaahs and too many great ideas!!

So, after many years of styling private events and designing and decorating weddings for friends, I am launching out into the big wide world of business.

I am passionate about what I do so whether you have an ideal vision in mind or need creative direction, I would love to be a part of helping you visualise your dream event and enjoy the process of creating it.

I am based in Derbyshire but am very willing to travel so please get in touch and we can chat about your requirements.

Over the next couple of months I will be launching a full website and adding images from a series of exciting photo shoots and weddings that I am involved with.
